Lisbon, 1843. Severa is a young woman from Mouraria, having begun prostituting as a child with her mother's guidance, Barbuda, a voluminous matron who owns a brothel. She sings and feels fado like no other, and keeps her dreams to herself. When she meets by chance, while waiting for bulls, the young and handsome D. Francisco, Count of Vimioso, a renowned bullfighting knight; Severa challenges all laws by which she has always been governed and which until then had guaranteed her survival in a world as hard as the one in Mouraria, at the beginning of the 19th century.
